Your CV is not a job history. Rewrite it for the recruiter in Dubai

A Dubai recruiter gives your CV about eight seconds. Most Pakistani CVs spend those eight seconds on a photo, a date of birth and a career objective.

I screened CVs for four years at a recruitment firm in Dubai, roughly 300 a week. The ones from Pakistan were often from the strongest candidates and almost always lost on page one. Not because of skill. Because of format habits that make sense in Lahore and cost you everywhere else.

Delete these before anything else

Take off your photo, your father's name, your CNIC number, your marital status and your date of birth. Gulf recruiters are used to seeing them, but they do not help you, and for European and remote roles they actively hurt, because many hiring teams are told to bin CVs with personal data. Delete the career objective too. Nobody has ever been shortlisted because they are seeking a challenging position in a progressive organisation.

Replace all of it with three lines at the top: your title as the job ad writes it, your years of experience in that exact work, and the one result you are proudest of with a number in it. Senior Accountant, 7 years in FMCG finance, closed month-end in 4 days instead of 9. That line does more work than a whole page of duties.

Duties are free. Results are the CV

Under each job, cut every line that starts with responsible for. Your job description is not your achievement. Write what changed because you were there: the report you automated, the vendor bill you cut, the team you trained, the audit you passed without findings. If you cannot find a number, use a scale: 40 stores, 3 countries, a team of 12.

Keep it to two pages, one if you have under five years. Use a plain single-column layout with no tables, icons or skill bars, because the applicant tracking systems most Gulf employers use still read two-column templates as noise. Save it as a PDF named with your full name and the role, not CV final final 2.

Then do the one thing almost nobody does: rewrite the top third for every application. Ten minutes, matched to the words in the ad. That single habit moved my clients from one interview per 40 applications to one per 9.
